Pina Bausch Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement  The German artist and choreographer, Pina Bausch, has been awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 5th International Festival of Contemporary Dance (14-30 June 2007). The suggestion for the award to Pina Bausch was made by the Festival Director, Ismael Ivo, and approved by the Biennale di Venezia’s Board of Directors, chaired by Davide Croff. The awards ceremony for the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement will take place on Wednesday 20 June at 9 p.m. at the Teatro Piccolo Arsenale, Venice, during the 5th Dance Festival.In 2006, the award was assigned to Carolyn Carlson.

This was the motivation: “Pina Bausch is an artist who has traced out a new original way forward for the expressiveness of the dancing and speaking body in the theatre, influencing not only contemporary dance, but also the arts contiguous to it, changing their horizons. Bausch is also a choreographer who has introduced innovations into theatre, making it more physical than ever and adding music to drama: a director who has been responsible for skilful assemblies of steps, sounds and texts to narrate the stories of people, individuals, lives through dance, reaching as broad a public as it is numerous, such as dance had never before attracted.� For detail please click here.
